This year is shaping up to be a very good one for BMW of North America. From new BMWs to used cars to motorcycles, BMW sales in the US are up across the board, and the company even reported the best March on record in 2014. It’s news that Austin BMW service experts are happy to hear.
In the first four months of 2014 sales are up an overall 2.5% compared to last year despite a decline in sales for the Mini brand, which is a part of the BMW Group’s offerings.
February Highlights
The first few months of 2014 started off a bit slow, partially due to the unforgiving winter weather. But BMW reps remained hopeful that the delays would just build anticipation and demand for their vehicles. It appears that they were right. The February numbers were promising, and interest in the new models, including the all-electric BMW i3, is also helping the carmaker catch the eye of consumers.
All in all the February 2014 BMW sales for new vehicles was 22,017, which is 3.3% higher than the same time last year. The BMW X1 and X3 models were huge contributors to the increase in sales. Pre-owned BMW sales were even better at 14,956, a full 10.4% higher compared to 2013.
March Highlights
Coming off of a strong February, the trend in upward sales continued, so much so that this year marked the BMW Group’s most successful March ever. An impressive 18.6% more BMW brand vehicles were sold compared to the same time last year for a total of 32,107 sales. The 6 series was up an astounding 249.3% adding 3,063 sales to the total and sales of the Z4 increased by 87.3%.
It was also the best month ever for the sale of pre-owned BMWs. A total of 19,301 used BMWs were bought for an increase of 22.1% over last year. The overall year-to-date totals for Q1 2014 were 2.6% higher compared to the same period in 2013 even with Mini sales being down significantly.
April Highlights
The beginning of the second quarter has been a good one for the BMW Group in 2014. Like the months prior, the first month of Q2 saw increased sales for both new and pre-owned BMW models. New BMW sales increased by 8.5% compared to April 2013 for a total of 25,202 vehicles sold. This has pushed the year-to-date sale of BMWs up 10.7% higher than last year.
Despite taxes and holiday breaks more people were buying BMWs in April than anticipated. This increase is being attributed to people’s interest in the latest models, which includes the new X3 and 7 series diesel-powered vehicles and the all-electric i3 that became available in April.
The first four months of 2014 have been very promising for the BMW Group. They are predicting that an increase in BMW sales will continue throughout the second quarter, making 2014 one of the best years ever for the company.
